A photo checklist for Irish Google Business Profiles that actually helps

What photos to add to your Google Business Profile as an Irish business, how to shoot them on a phone, and a simple monthly upkeep routine.

Short answer: show customers exactly what they'll find when they arrive — your entrance, inside the premises, the team, and recent work — using clear, honestly lit phone photos, added a little at a time each month rather than dumped in once a year and forgotten.

Photos are often the deciding factor for a customer choosing between two similar businesses on a map in Dublin, Cork or a smaller county town where word of mouth already carries most of the trust. Google's own guidance is about accuracy above all: photos should represent the business as it genuinely is, and must follow the photos and posts content policy — no stock imagery pretending to be your premises.

The set every profile needs

  • Logo — identical to the one on your van, sign or invoice.
  • Cover photo — the single image that best represents the business at a glance.
  • Exterior — the building from the street in daylight, so someone can actually find the door; this matters more in towns where several units look alike.
  • Interior — the space a customer will physically be in.
  • Team — real people at work, with their consent.
  • Work or products — your strongest, most recent examples.

Shooting decent photos on an ordinary phone

  1. Clean the camera lens first — it sounds obvious and is usually the biggest single improvement.
  2. Shoot in daylight, or turn the lights on properly; avoid flash, which flattens everything.
  3. Hold the phone level and step back enough to show context, not just a close-up.
  4. Take several shots of the same thing and keep only the sharpest.
  5. Skip text overlays, heavy filters, and any stock image that isn't genuinely your premises or work.

A monthly routine that's realistic

  • Week 1: one photo from a recent job or new stock arrival.
  • Week 2: reuse that same photo in a post.
  • Week 3: check the exterior and interior photos still match reality — a repainted shopfront or new signage needs a fresh photo.
  • Week 4: remove anything genuinely out of date, including old seasonal decorations.

Using AI images without misleading anyone

AI-generated images can work well for illustrating a general offer or a seasonal theme, but they must never be presented as your actual premises, team or finished work — that would misrepresent the business to a customer trying to judge whether to book you. Real photos remain essential for anything a customer will rely on to make a decision.

Checklist

  • Logo, cover, exterior and interior photos all uploaded
  • Every team photo has consent
  • No stock imagery standing in for real premises or work
  • At least one new photo added this month
  • Anything out of date removed
