Google Business Profile suspended in Ireland? How to fix and appeal

Learn how to handle a Google Business Profile suspension in Ireland. Step-by-step guide covering Eircodes, compliance, local directories and filing an appeal.

Short answer: If your Google Business Profile has been suspended, find out which guideline the profile may have broken, fix it on the profile, collect proof that the business is real, and then submit one clear appeal through the route Google gives you. Don't create a new profile to get around the suspension. Google's own help page on suspended or disabled profiles explains what each status means and where to appeal.

This guide explains the steps in plain terms for businesses across County Dublin, County Cork, and beyond. Local SEO AI is profile management software, not a reinstatement service. Only Google can decide an appeal. Pricing for our tools is billed in GBP (£).

Suspended, disabled or restricted: know what you have

Google uses different labels, and the right next step depends on the label shown in your profile or in the email Google sent. Whether you operate a café in Dublin or a trades service in Galway, understanding these statuses is vital:

  • Suspended or restricted. The profile may stay visible, but you may not be able to manage or edit it.
  • Disabled. The profile may be removed from Google Search and Maps entirely.

Write down the exact wording and the date you first saw it. You will need both if you appeal.

Step 1: check the profile against Google's guidelines

Most suspensions come from something on the profile that doesn't match Google's guidelines for representing your business. Check each of these carefully:

  1. Business name. Use your real-world name only, as it appears on your storefront signage, website, and official registration documents. Remove added keywords, locations, or taglines. Our business name guide covers the rules.
  2. Address. A storefront address must be a place where customers can visit you during stated hours. If you visit customers instead across your county, hide the address and set a service area. Ensure your official Eircode is correctly positioned without relying on virtual offices or mailboxes, which are not allowed.
  3. Category. Choose the category that describes what the business is, not a list of everything it sells.
  4. Phone number and website. Use a mobile or landline number and a site that belong directly to this business, not a lead-generation or shared page.
  5. Recent edits. Think about what changed shortly before the suspension, such as updating your operating hours for a local bank holiday, a renamed profile, or adding a new manager.

Step 2: fix the problem before you appeal

If you find a problem, correct it first where you still can. An appeal for a profile that still breaks a guideline is unlikely to help. If you can't edit the profile, record the correction you intend to make and mention it in the appeal.

Also check who has access to the profile. Remove managers you no longer recognise and keep a note of who changed what.

Step 3: gather evidence that the business is real

Google may ask for proof. Useful evidence usually shows the business name and address together. Examples include:

  • a photo of permanent signage at the address
  • a recent utility bill or business bank statement in the business name showing your registered address
  • official documents from the Companies Registration Office (CRO)
  • photos of the shop front or vehicle branding for service-area businesses operating locally

Only send documents that are genuine and current. Never edit documents to make them match.

Step 4: submit one clear appeal

Use the appeal link in your profile or the route on Google's help page for suspended profiles. Keep the appeal short and factual: what the business is, what you changed, and what evidence you are attaching. Send one appeal, then wait. Sending many appeals, or creating a duplicate profile, can make things slower and harder to sort out.

If Google does not approve the appeal, read the reason carefully, correct anything it mentions, and follow the next step on Google's help page. Be wary of anyone who promises a guaranteed reinstatement for a fee. For consumer rights issues or further guidance, bodies like the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) provide clear frameworks on fair trading practices.

Worked example: O'Connor Plumbing in Limerick (Illustrative)

To see how this applies in practice, consider an illustrative business: O'Connor Plumbing, based in Limerick.

O'Connor Plumbing recently updated their profile to target multiple towns across the region, adding extra keywords to their business name and updating their address to a shared mailbox facility. Following a routine check by Google, the profile was suspended.

To resolve this, the business owner: 1. Reverted the business name on the dashboard to match their official registered signage. 2. Removed the shared mailbox address and correctly set up a service-area profile covering Limerick and surrounding areas. 3. Gathered local utility bills and vehicle branding photos showing the correct business details. 4. Submitted a single, concise appeal through the standard Google support route.

Stop it happening again

Most suspensions are avoidable with a quick routine:

  • Review the name, address, category, and hours every month against the guidelines, paying attention to seasonal adjustments like upcoming bank holidays.
  • Keep a record of every edit and who made it.
  • Limit manager access to people who need it.
  • Check for suggested edits that Google or other users may apply to your profile.

Our local SEO audit checklist turns this into a monthly routine.

Frequently asked questions

How does the CCPC affect my local business listings? While the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) primarily enforces consumer protection and competition law in Ireland, ensuring your business details, pricing, and trading names are transparent and accurate across directories like GoldenPages.ie helps maintain compliance and prevents consumer confusion.

Why did my bank holiday hours update trigger a suspension? Abruptly changing core business information, categories, or adding promotional text to your business name fields around busy trading periods or public holidays can sometimes trigger automated quality filters. Always update your holiday hours through the specific holiday hours feature rather than altering your primary business name.

Can I use a virtual office or shared workspace for my Eircode? Google's guidelines strictly prohibit using virtual offices, unstaffed coworking spaces, or PO Boxes as your primary business address unless your staff are present during stated business hours. Your registered Eircode must point to a location where customers can genuinely visit you or where you actively dispatch services from.

Which local directories should I use alongside Google? For businesses operating across Ireland, maintaining consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) data on reputable domestic platforms like GoldenPages.ie and Yelp Ireland helps reinforce your local presence and builds trust alongside your Google Business Profile management strategy.
