Google Business Profile verification in Ireland: common problems and next steps

Learn how to resolve Google Business Profile verification issues in Ireland, prepare genuine video evidence, and handle ownership conflicts.

Short answer: check the exact message on your Google Business Profile before starting again. A pending review, an unsuccessful video and an ownership conflict need different next steps. Use the verification options Google offers for that profile; software cannot bypass verification or guarantee approval.

This guide covers verification, not reinstatement. If your profile says it is suspended or disabled, use the suspension and appeals guide. If it is already verified but performs poorly in searches, read the Maps visibility guide.

Start with the message, not another attempt

Sign in with the Google Account associated with the business and open its profile. Record the wording shown, the date of your last submission and the method used.

Google chooses the available verification methods. You cannot demand a different method, and some businesses need more than one. After submission, verification review can take up to five working days, occasionally longer. If Get verified returns, follow the re-verification instructions. A Review issues message after a video points to problems you need to address. These are Google's stated steps, not a promise of a completion date. See Google's verification guidance.

Our practical recommendation: keep one simple case note, rather than relying on screenshots scattered across staff mobile phones.

Never put passwords, verification codes or private documents into a shared task note. Regulatory compliance under the Data Protection Commission in Ireland means handling business and personal data with care.

Prepare the business details before preparing evidence

Compare your profile with the actual business. Google's guidelines call for a real-world business name, an accurate address or service area including your valid Eircode, and normally one profile per business. Do not create another listing simply to escape a verification problem. If you travel to customers across County Dublin or County Cork and do not serve them at your address, follow the service-area rules rather than presenting your home as a shopfront. See Google's business guidelines and our services and service-area guide.

Our preparation check is straightforward: can the person doing verification explain any mismatch between the profile, signage and current business details? Investigate a mismatch before guessing at a correction. Use the manual profile audit for broader checks; you do not need to repeat that entire audit every time you check verification status.

If Google offers video verification

Google requires a live, uninterrupted, unedited recording of at least 30 seconds, recorded and uploaded through the profile on a mobile device. Do not prepare an edited promotional video or use AI-generated evidence.

For a shopfront or hybrid business, show the location, permanent business signage matching the profile name, and proof that you manage the premises. For a service-area business, show location identifiers, genuine work equipment and evidence of authorised access or management. Keep other people's faces and sensitive information out of the recording. These requirements come from Google's video verification instructions.

Illustrative preparation example — not a real customer case: a mobile repair business based in Galway writes three headings on paper: location, equipment and management. The owner checks what genuine evidence is available under each heading before opening the recording screen. That preparation is a reminder, not a script that guarantees approval.

If Google rejects the video, use Review issues to identify the missing elements. The replacement needs the original required information as well as the missing evidence. If an upload fails, Google advises trying the upload again. Check the linked instructions for the current steps.

Worked example: an illustrative plumbing firm in Dublin

This is an illustrative example of an independent plumbing provider operating in Dublin, structured for local context and compliance. The business operates across the capital, noting bank holiday hours on its website to help customers during public holidays like St Patrick's Day or the June bank holiday.

The owner verifies the profile using an official Eircode for their registered administrative base, ensuring local directories like GoldenPages.ie match their exact NAP (Name, Address, Phone number) data. When video verification is requested, the owner records their branded van carrying the business name, tools of the trade, and utility bills showing the registered Dublin address, all without any ranking guarantees or claims of special Google partnerships.

If someone else owns the existing profile

An ownership issue is not solved by repeatedly submitting verification videos. Google's ownership request guide provides a separate process. For a shopfront or hybrid business, locate the existing listing and request access. The current owner has three days to respond; a later option to claim the profile is not always available. For a service-area business ownership transfer, Google directs owners to support.

Our recommendation for agencies: agree who at the business handles ownership before starting other profile work. Keep the client involved rather than treating account access as an administrative afterthought.

When you still cannot complete verification

Try the available methods first, then use the support route linked from Google's verification guidance if you remain stuck. Keep verification codes private; Google explicitly says not to share them, including with profile managers.

Our suggested support note contains:

  • The correct profile link.
  • The exact message currently displayed.
  • The method attempted and submission date.
  • The problem you need help with.
  • Any existing case reference.

This is an organisational checklist, not an official Google form. Send evidence only through the appropriate support process, not a public forum containing customer or financial details.

What Local SEO AI can and cannot do

Local SEO AI, a product of Let's Connect, helps organise your business profile details. It cannot choose Google's verification method, approve evidence or speed up Google's review. Our live Google connection is awaiting approval; preparing profile information is separate from sending changes to Google.

Finish verification through Google, then use an accurate profile as the starting point for ongoing management. Verification is not a promise of a top Maps position. Pricing for our tools is billed in GBP (£).

Frequently asked questions

How do I handle bank holiday hours on my Google Business Profile? When public holidays approach, such as the October bank holiday or Christmas, update your special hours via your dashboard well in advance. This ensures customers searching in cities like Limerick or Cork see accurate opening times, preventing frustration and negative reviews regarding holiday closures.

Why is my Eircode important for local verification? Your Eircode is the official postal code system for Ireland. Google uses it to pinpoint exact geographic locations for map listings. Ensuring your Eircode is correctly entered matches your physical storefront or service area records, reducing the likelihood of verification delays or address rejection errors.

Which local directories matter for Irish businesses? Citations on established local platforms like GoldenPages.ie and Yelp Ireland help reinforce your business's legitimacy to search engines. Ensure your business name, address including Eircode, and phone number match your Google Business Profile details precisely across every directory you use.

What consumer protection laws apply to local businesses in Ireland? The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) enforces consumer law in Ireland. Local businesses must ensure that all trading names, pricing displays, and service descriptions on their Google Business Profile comply with CCPC guidelines and transparent trading standards.
