Google Business Profile verification: common problems and next steps in India
Learn how to resolve Google Business Profile verification issues in India, prepare genuine video evidence, and handle ownership conflicts.

Short answer: check the exact message on your Google Business Profile before starting again. A pending review, an unsuccessful video and an ownership conflict need different next steps. Use the verification options Google offers for that profile; software cannot bypass verification or guarantee approval.
This guide covers verification, not reinstatement. If your profile says it is suspended or disabled, use the suspension and appeals guide. If it is already verified but performs poorly in searches, read the Maps visibility guide.
Start with the message, not another attempt
Sign in with the Google Account associated with the business and open its profile. Record the wording shown, the date of your last submission and the method used. In India, ensuring your PIN code and state details are accurate is vital before requesting verification.
Google chooses the available verification methods. You cannot demand a different method, and some businesses need more than one. After submission, verification review can take up to five working days, occasionally longer. If Get verified returns, follow the re-verification instructions. A Review issues message after a video points to problems you need to address. These are Google's stated steps, not a promise of a completion date. See Google's verification guidance.
Our practical recommendation: keep one simple case note, rather than relying on screenshots scattered across staff phones.
| Record | What to write |
|---|---|
| Profile | Business name and the correct Maps link |
| Status | Exact message, without guessing what caused it |
| Attempt | Method and submission date |
| Evidence gap | What Google says is missing |
| Responsibility | One person to complete the next step |
| Follow-up | Date to check again and any support reference |
Never put passwords, verification codes or private documents into a shared task note.
Prepare the business details before preparing evidence
Compare your profile with the actual business. Google's guidelines call for a real-world business name, an accurate address, state, PIN code, or service area, and normally one profile per business. Do not create another listing simply to escape a verification problem. If you travel to customers in cities like Mumbai or Bengaluru and do not serve them at your address, follow the service-area rules rather than presenting your home as a shopfront. See Google's business guidelines and our services and service-area guide.
Our preparation check is straightforward: can the person doing verification explain any mismatch between the profile, signage and current business details? Investigate a mismatch before guessing at a correction. Use the manual profile audit for broader checks; you do not need to repeat that entire audit every time you check verification status.
If Google offers video verification
Google requires a live, uninterrupted, unedited recording of at least 30 seconds, recorded and uploaded through the profile on a mobile device. Do not prepare an edited promotional video or use AI-generated evidence.
For a shopfront in Delhi NCR or Chennai, show the location, permanent business signage matching the profile name, and proof that you manage the premises. For a service-area business, show location identifiers, genuine work equipment and evidence of authorised access or management. Keep other people's faces and sensitive information out of the recording. These requirements come from Google's video verification instructions.
Illustrative preparation example — not a real customer case: a mobile repair business in Hyderabad writes three headings on paper: location, equipment and management. The owner checks what genuine evidence is available under each heading before opening the recording screen. That preparation is a reminder, not a script that guarantees approval.
If Google rejects the video, use Review issues to identify the missing elements. The replacement needs the original required information as well as the missing evidence. If an upload fails, Google advises trying the upload again. Check the linked instructions for the current steps.
Worked example: verifying a retail store in Mumbai
Illustrative example only — not a real customer case: Consider a boutique store located in Bandra, Mumbai, with the PIN code 400050. The business owner attempts to verify their Google Business Profile but encounters a pending video verification request. Instead of submitting random clips, the team records a continuous 30-second video on a mobile device starting from the street showing local landmarks, moving inside to display permanent storefront signage, and showcasing the point-of-sale counter and inventory matching the business name. They ensure public holiday hours are updated ahead of major festivals like Diwali and that no staff faces are captured. This adheres to guidelines while navigating local verification hurdles without ranking guarantees.
If someone else owns the existing profile
An ownership issue is not solved by repeatedly submitting verification videos. Google's ownership request guide provides a separate process. For a shopfront or hybrid business, locate the existing listing and request access. The current owner has three days to respond; a later option to claim the profile is not always available. For a service-area business ownership transfer, Google directs owners to support.
Our recommendation for agencies: agree who at the business handles ownership before starting other profile work. Keep the client involved rather than treating account access as an administrative afterthought.
When you still cannot complete verification
Try the available methods first, then use the support route linked from Google's verification guidance if you remain stuck. Keep verification codes private; Google explicitly says not to share them, including with profile managers. When dealing with consumer disputes or compliance, Indian businesses often reference guidelines from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
Our suggested support note contains:
- The correct profile link.
- The exact message currently displayed.
- The method attempted and submission date.
- The problem you need help with.
- Any existing case reference.
This is an organisational checklist, not an official Google form. Send evidence only through the appropriate support process, not a public forum containing customer or financial details.
What Local SEO AI can and cannot do
Local SEO AI, a product of Let's Connect, helps organise your business profile details. It cannot choose Google's verification method, approve evidence or speed up Google's review. Our live Google connection is awaiting approval; preparing profile information is separate from sending changes to Google. Services are billed in GBP (£).
Finish verification through Google, then use an accurate profile as the starting point for ongoing management. Verification is not a promise of a top Maps position.
Frequently asked questions
What should I do if my video verification fails in Pune? If your video verification fails, check the **Review issues** section on your profile to see what Google flagged. Ensure your mobile recording clearly shows your permanent signage, street view, and interior workspace without any edits. Re-record following the exact guidelines and upload again.
How are public holiday hours handled during Diwali in Delhi NCR? Update your public holiday hours well in advance via your Google Business Profile dashboard. Customers searching during festivals like Diwali rely on accurate hours. If your store is closed on a national public holiday, mark it accordingly to prevent negative reviews.
Which regulatory body oversees consumer rights in India for businesses? Businesses operating in India should remain aware of guidelines set by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, which oversees consumer protection, fair trade practices, and consumer dispute resolution across all states and union territories.
Can I use Justdial alongside my Google Business Profile in Bengaluru? Yes, listing your business on local Indian directories like Justdial or IndiaMART can help establish local citations. However, these directories do not replace your Google Business Profile, which requires separate verification via Google's official channels.
