Google Business Profile verification guide for United Kingdom businesses
Learn how to resolve stuck Google Business Profile verifications in the UK. Follow British guidelines, handle video evidence, and fix ownership issues.

Short answer: check the exact message on your Google Business Profile before starting again. A pending review, an unsuccessful video and an ownership conflict need different next steps. Use the verification options Google offers for that profile; software cannot bypass verification or guarantee approval.
This guide covers verification, not reinstatement. If your profile says it is suspended or disabled, use the suspension and appeals guide. If it is already verified but performs poorly in searches, read the Maps visibility guide. Local businesses operating across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland must navigate strict platform checks to ensure compliance with local regulations, including standards set by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
Start with the message, not another attempt
Sign in with the Google Account associated with the business and open its profile. Record the wording shown, the date of your last submission and the method used. Whether your enterprise is based in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, or Liverpool, Google chooses the available verification methods. You cannot demand a different method, and some businesses need more than one. After submission, verification review can take up to five working days, occasionally longer.
If Get verified returns, follow the re-verification instructions. A Review issues message after a video points to problems you need to address. These are Google's stated steps, not a promise of a completion date. See Google's verification guidance.
Our practical recommendation: keep one simple case note, rather than relying on screenshots scattered across staff mobile phones.
| Record | What to write |
|---|---|
| Profile | Business name and the correct Maps link |
| Status | Exact message, without guessing what caused it |
| Attempt | Method and submission date |
| Evidence gap | What Google says is missing |
| Responsibility | One person to complete the next step |
| Follow-up | Date to check again and any support reference |
Never put passwords, verification codes or private documents into a shared task note.
Prepare the business details before preparing evidence
Compare your profile with the actual business. Google's guidelines call for a real-world business name, an accurate address or postcode, and normally one profile per business. Do not create another listing simply to escape a verification problem. If you travel to customers across your county and do not serve them at your address, follow the service-area rules rather than presenting your home as a shopfront. See Google's business guidelines.
Our preparation check is straightforward: can the person doing verification explain any mismatch between the profile, signage, and current business details? Investigate a mismatch before guessing at a correction.
If Google offers video verification
Google requires a live, uninterrupted, unedited recording of at least 30 seconds, recorded and uploaded through the profile on a mobile device. Do not prepare an edited promotional video or use AI-generated evidence.
For a shopfront or hybrid business, show the location, permanent business signage matching the profile name, and proof that you manage the premises. For a service-area business, show location identifiers, genuine work equipment, and evidence of authorised access or management. Keep other people's faces and sensitive information out of the recording. These requirements come from Google's video verification instructions.
Worked example: Illustrative plumbing service in London
Illustrative preparation example — not a real customer case: an emergency plumbing provider operating out of a registered postcode in Greater London writes three headings on paper: location, equipment, and management. The owner checks what genuine evidence is available under each heading before opening the recording screen on their mobile device. They ensure their company van and trade accreditation documents are clearly visible. That preparation is a reminder, not a script that guarantees approval. For businesses looking to expand their reach, professional support is available through our dedicated hub for local SEO services in London, as well as similar regional hubs for Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, and Liverpool.
If Google rejects the video, use Review issues to identify the missing elements. The replacement needs the original required information as well as the missing evidence. If an upload fails, Google advises trying the upload again.
If someone else owns the existing profile
An ownership issue is not solved by repeatedly submitting verification videos. Google's ownership request guide provides a separate process. For a shopfront or hybrid business, locate the existing listing and request access. The current owner has three days to respond; a later option to claim the profile is not always available. For a service-area business ownership transfer, Google directs owners to support.
Our recommendation for agencies: agree who at the business handles ownership before starting other profile work. Keep the client involved rather than treating account access as an administrative afterthought.
When you still cannot complete verification
Try the available methods first, then use the support route linked from Google's verification guidance if you remain stuck. Keep verification codes private; Google explicitly says not to share them, including with profile managers.
Our suggested support note contains:
- The correct profile link.
- The exact message currently displayed.
- The method attempted and submission date.
- The problem you need help with.
- Any existing case reference.
This is an organisational checklist, not an official Google form. Send evidence only through the appropriate support process, not a public forum containing customer or financial details.
What Local SEO AI can and cannot do
Local SEO AI, a product of Let's Connect, helps organise your business profile details. It cannot choose Google's verification method, approve evidence or speed up Google's review. Our live Google connection is awaiting approval; preparing profile information is separate from sending changes to Google. All pricing on our platform includes VAT where applicable.
Finish verification through Google, then use an accurate profile as the starting point for ongoing management. Verification is not a promise of a top Maps position.
Frequently asked questions
How do bank holiday hours affect my verification schedule? Submitting verification details or requesting postcard codes right before a national bank holiday can cause unexpected delivery delays. Royal Mail services typically pause on public holidays, meaning verification postcards may take longer to arrive at your postal address. Plan your submissions around the standard working week to ensure timely processing.
Which local directories matter for United Kingdom businesses? Beyond Google Business Profile, UK enterprises often build local citations on established directories such as Yell, Thomson Local, and Scoot. Ensuring your Name, Address, and Phone number (NAP) data matches across these platforms reinforces your local presence, particularly when coordinated alongside tailored strategies in cities like Leeds or Manchester.
What regulatory bodies oversee business listings and consumer trust? In the United Kingdom, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) actively monitors consumer protection and online reviews. Ensuring your business profile displays accurate information, genuine reviews, and transparent operating hours helps maintain compliance with UK consumer law and builds essential trust with local customers.
How should I format my postcode and address details? Always use your official Royal Mail formatted address, including the correct outward and inward postcode segments, county, and town. Mismatches between your physical location, directory citations, and Google Business Profile can trigger verification holds or automated suspensions, preventing your enterprise from appearing prominently in local search results.
